Hi there my name is Simon, not Dougal. I’m borrowing my cats name.

Currently living in York as I’m a carer for my Dad.
Usually live between Scarborough and Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay where my jobs are based. (Stone restoration, driving professional musicians local to the area around the country on tours etc, projections for clubs) I live (usually) very remotely up on the top of the North Yorkshire moors on the edge of a large forest, it’s very beautiful.

My primary passions are playing Music (live) and Painting. (Art)
Currently play in 3 bands (guitar, electric bass) and play concerts often, locally and further afield. Throughout my 40s this was my job, playing festivals and concerts around England and Wales.
I play a few other instruments to an amateur level (accordion, violin, ‘cello)

Single after having come out of a long term relationship in the last 2 months. No baggage there, very happy and on good terms with my last partner and no desire to resume that relationship or pick it apart. We still spend time together, I’m lucky to have her as a solid friend.

Would love to meet people for dates, coffee, ☕️ bar, ⭐️🍷 wherever but ideally somewhere that serves proper coffee :) Not sure I’m ready to jump back into a long term relationship but would be willing were the right person to magically appear of course.
Ideally I’d like to meet someone my own age or older. I have had relationships with people younger before, successfully, but I do miss the pleasure of having common references. If you look blank when I mention Bagpuss or Opal Fruits, Spangles.. that means we may have wildly different opinions on what is and is not cool 😅

I am told I’m very easy to get on with, I love meeting new people, will always find something in common with anyone and I love to talk and to listen. Everyone has something interesting about them in my experience and I love to explore that :)

Ideally I’m looking for someone reasonably local to me (York, Leeds etc) as I have caring responsibilities for an elderly parent who has dementia and mobility issues unfortunately. I am not the sole carer, it is a shared responsibility with his partner thankfully so am able to get out.

Art (painting/drawing) 🎨 has always been a large part of my life. Equally important as Music making. I love Art History in the same way I love to listen to music ((60s70s80s90s and various bands/rap and dance acts of this century, classical music, some jazz and an awful lot of Stephen Sondheim) I love to be introduced to new great music. And old great music that I’ve somehow missed.

Very interested in Science as well as the Arts, esp Astronomy, 🪐 Cosmology, Evolution, theoretical Physics. The big why and how questions. I read a lot around those subjects.

I have a wide and varied circle of friends in the area, I’d hope if we meet and it isn’t successful in relationship terms, people I may meet dating would end up as friends too ideally :) it has happened before.

Oh, cats. What was I thinking. Major part of my life. >^..^< cute little rascals. Hope you ❤️ cats too but if you don’t we can work on it, take you to a doctor or psychiatrist or something, see what’s wrong. 🙄😅🤣 Dogs cool too of course, I just don’t have one. Love all animals. Maybe not wasps and flies so if you have those as pets it’s a no from me sorry 🤷‍♂️😬😂🪰
