My name is Robert, I’m 68 years of age and I currently live in Portsmouth.
I am a widow.

I have two children both grown up, both have families of their own.

I was born in the Royal Borough of Kensington in London and at the age of 14 moved to Harrow with my parents.
When I left school (a long time ago) I served two and a half years of a three year apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding. I then served for six years in the Army. After my army service I worked for Post Office engineering and lived in both Enfield and Peterborough. I then took time out and returned to full time education and completed a HND in Engineering. At that time I lived in Redcar North Yorkshire, after full time study I then worked for ICI on Teesside as an Inspection Engineer working on pressure vessels, pipelines, power generation equipment
I then moved to the South coast where I worked in many quality / engineering / health and safety roles. I also served in the TA for 18 years as a Staff Sergeant instructor.

Whilst working full time I completed a BA (Hons) Degree in Business Studies and after that I studied for Master’s Degree (MSc) in Occupational, Environmental and Health and Safety Management.

I worked in Southampton Docks for a Cargo Handling Company as the Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Manager, this was a stevedoring company - load / unload cruise ships and roll-on-roll-off car and heavy plant ships that come into Southampton Docks.
I then moved up the APB (the port owner) as the Health and Safety Manager for the Port of Southampton. On re-organisation I was made redundant.
After a number of short term jobs (and the Covid epidemic) I am now a Civil Servant and work for the MOD in HM Naval Base Portsmouth I retire at the end of December 2024.

What am I looking for? Well this is the difficult bit; I’m a kind and caring person who cares about people and their feelings. I’m looking for someone to be friends with, someone I can talk to and trust (trust and honesty are important to me) and maybe someone who is in a similar situation to me (alone and lonely) but wants and needs more. I said this bit was difficult and it is.
I suppose I’m looking for a friend who in time may become more.
