About PicturesInTheDark
PicturesInTheDark's relationship status wasn't listed as an option and is seeking females for friendship.
By some cruel twist of bureaucratic fate, I have spent well over two decades as an engineer. This means I possess the social dynamism of a damp sponge, the charisma of a slide rule, and a terrifyingly intimate relationship with spreadsheets, blueprints, and engineering codes and standards. Frankly, it took me until my mid-forties to realize that this wasn't just a career choice, but rather the way my entire internal operating system was hardwired from birth.
I occupy a world of aggressive, entirely unexciting tranquility. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, and I consume approximately six cups of tea a year—usually under extreme duress. My idea of a thrilling night on the town is a midnight drive to nowhere in particular, preferably while it is pouring rain, just so I can wallow in an atmosphere that matches my brooding exterior. I am entirely 'Far from the Madding Crowd,' mostly because the madding crowd has excellent taste and a dreadful habit of being terribly loud and unpredictable.
My Virtues (Such as They Are)
The Commute: My office is a hefty 20 minutes away. This is excellent, as it minimizes the time I must spend navigating the sensory perils of the morning rush hour.
The Obsessions: I am a certified, gold-standard nerd who thrives on deep, hyper-focused dives. I alternate between Star Wars, Star Trek, The Lord of the Rings, British detective shows, and collecting stamps. Yes, stamps. If you ever find yourself suffering from stubborn insomnia, I can explain the profound historical significance of a 19th-century postmark until you blissfully lose consciousness.
The Senses: I have an immense appreciation for fine fragrances, which is a marvelous coping mechanism for my ordeals. I also possess a borderline obsessive devotion to cricket, a sport I analyze with the kind of intense, statistical scrutiny usually reserved for engineering. It almost makes the stamp collector in me look human.
The Soundtrack: I play music and I sing. I have varied taste. In a bid to fulfill a past resolution, I bypassed the Yamaha SX900 and bought an SX920 instead. It allows me to belt out tragic melodies in absolute solitude with much higher audio fidelity—occasionally at the absolute expense of the golden slumbers of the poor, innocent fellow in the flat downstairs.
I am told I have a rich inner world of imagination, magic, and wonder. In reality, it just means I stare into space looking incredibly deep and mysterious while my mind is actually cataloging data or wondering if I remembered to lock the front door. I appreciate deep conversations, places old and mysterious, and classic animation.
I have no grand expectations and am in no particular rush—mostly because I am far too content in my own company for high-stakes drama. Even identical twins can be diametrically opposite, so I prefer to let things develop naturally. I am simply open to a good, quiet conversation to see where things go—nothing more, nothing less. I need everyone to feel comfortable first; it must be entirely organic, like a slow-growing oak tree or a very patient glacier.
If you fancy a quiet, peaceful chat with someone who prefers vintage Tom and Jerry to loud nightclubs, feel free to drop a line. At your own absolute convenience, of course. No pressure whatsoever.
