About Poet1962 |
| |
|
I work as a teacher of older children and young adults with Special Educational Needs, which is challenging and infinitely interesting. No two days are ever the same!
I write and publish, mainly poetry, and my Selected Poems has just been published. I also do some 'poet work', giving public readings and, occasionally, running writing workshops for adults of children.
I've travelled widely, especially in southeast Asia, including four extended visits to India to write, travel and do some voluntary work. I enjoy being outdoors, walking, cycling or just being out of the town and in the countryside.
When I'm not doing any of the above things, I'm reading (Scandinavian crime fiction at the moment - Henning Mankell in particular), painting (strictly amateur though I've taken part in a few group exhibitions in UK and abroad), photographing (something I've been doing since I was a kid), or sitting in the gardening wondering when exactly the clematis turned into Triffids. Must have been while I was out photographing nature...
I'm separated, with a 7 year old son who lives with me 50% of the time. I'm a parent Governor at his school.
I enjoy watching films, all sorts but I do like to watch French and other European movies. The less CGI a film has, the more I like it!
I've been vegetarian for most of my adult life, which has blessed me with fitness and good health (not to mention eternal youth ;-)) at low cost. Never smoked, enjoy a bottle of fairly decent wine as much as the next person, not to mention a glass of organic cider when the sun's shining (well, it's always shining somewhere in the world). Don't gamble.
Apart from this, I'm kind, sensitive, honest and dare I say it, romantic. Passionate and committed. Though I'm not a total wuss and can also mend things and hammer nails and stuff. |

Interview with Poet1962 |
| |
|
What do you like most about where you currently live? It's easy to get out of ;-) But it keeps dragging us Newportonians back somehow. |
| |
|
What do you enjoy most about your current job? Making a difference to children's and young adults' lives. Every day is different. I like it, and I'm good at it (usually). |
| |
|
What are your favourite leisure activities? Traveling - have been many places, particularly India and southeast Asia, though not exclusively. I like being outdoors, walking or cycling - the countryside is fine, but I like to be by the sea. I read a lot, write and publish, and I also paint. I enjoy swimming, cycling, and being in my lovely garden. |
| |
|
Where in the world are your favourite places? India, without a doubt. Though Lisbon is great, as is Tarragona in Spain. I like Tunis, Greece, Italy... |
| |
|
Where in the world would you love to visit? Would love to go back to India or China as it's been 10 years since I was last in either. Lisbon or Tunis are always great to return to. |
| |
|
What would you do on an ideal date? Walk by the river, chatting. Go for a coffee or a drink. Perhaps lunch, eaten outdoors in the sun (OK, shade). A walk by the sea afterwards, getting to know each other, no pressure. |
| |
|
What are you looking for in a partner? Someone reliable, genuine and honest. A good listener, like me. Looks not particularly important as long as I like the look of you ;-) Someone interested in the world, culture(s), art, and who is sensitive, sensuous and inquisitive. |
| |
|
What makes a good relationship? Honesty, listening, friendship, desire, intimacy, sharing. |
| |
|
What makes you laugh? Dry humour as well as the more immediate stuff - early Steve Martin films, Bill Murray, Morecambe & Wise, 50% of Radio 4 comedy shows, many of the things my students say. |
| |
|
What music do you like? Lots - indie, post-punk, The Streets, Mew, modern classical, Steve Reich and Philip Glass, Van Morrison, Prog Rock, The Clash, Pistols... |
| |
|
What has been the highlight of your life so far? My 7 year old son.
My first visit to Asia, living in India for a few months and staying in Kashmir and the Himalaya.
Getting my writing published each time. |
| |
|
What are you looking forward to in the future? Happiness, contentment, excitement, (see 'What makes a good relationship' above). |
| |
|
What do you dream of? Health and happiness for my son foremost, and then me if there's any left. |
